4,095 m, the highest peak in Southeast Asia. UNESCO World Heritage Site. The two-day Kinabalu climb runs via Timpohon Gate, overnighting at Laban Rata, and summiting at dawn. Climbing permits are capped daily and book out months ahead.
An ancient volcanic island rising from the ocean floor. The drop-off walls and Turtle Cavern are world-recognised. Daily permits are capped at 178 and book 3–6 months ahead. Mabul Island is the standard base; Kapalai is the resort option.
Near Sandakan. Rescued orangutans live in the surrounding forest and descend to feeding platforms at 10:00 and 15:00. The adjacent Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre is included in the standard half-day visit.
